The #SewMyStyle2018 pattern for March was the Kalle Shirtdress from Closet Case Patterns. It was a very popular make amongst our participants and I have seen so many amazing versions already!!
SHOP THE POST
I had this gorgeous green & navy tartan in my stash and I knew it would be perfect for an autumn / winter inspired Kalle. I’m not actually sure where I got it from, but it was either given to me or I picked it up from an Op Shop for less than $5.
I have made a few shirts before this so I found the construction of the Kalle fairly straight forward. The burrito method is actually not as complicated as I thought and I love the way it neatens the yoke area. I did find the instructions for this a little bit confusing but now I know how it works next time will be a breeze.
I chose to do the inverted pleat for this version as I prefer the way this looks. I really like the way this dress is finished off and how neat the insides are.
You’ll be surprised to see I chose wooden buttons (again!) for this dress however I really do love the way they look with this fabric. I am also really proud of my button plackets & button holes with this dress as it is definitely not my strongest sewing skill.
One of the things I have always loved about the Kalle is the gorgeous curved hem. I was a bit worried about adding the bias tho this as I don’t have a great track record with curves, however it turned out really beautifully.
I absolutely love my Kalle!! This fabric is such amazing quality and is so comfortable. I know I am going to get so much wear out of this during winter.
I can’t wait to see all your gorgeous Kalle’s! Don’t forget to use the #SewMyStyle2018 when uploading them to Instagram and pop them in the relevant album if you are uploading them to Facebook.
